Heat of Hydration Analysis
In the design of concrete structures, it is essential to consider the heat generation due to the hydration reaction of concrete. Depending on the scale, adjusting construction stages and conducting various assessments for mass concrete may be required. The hydration heat analysis provided by MIDAS CIVIL NX is an advanced analysis function that predicts crack formation in mass concrete by considering heat generation due to the hydration reaction of concrete. It allows for the definition of heat generation characteristics functions for various types of cement based on k and α values. Additionally, it includes features such as Creep/Shrinkage, strength development database provision, built-in heat generation functions, consideration of time-dependent external temperatures, convection coefficient variations, the presence, type, thickness, casting method, and surrounding wind speed of formwork, and various convection coefficient applications considering construction stages. The hydration heat analysis provides stress, tensile strength, and crack index graphs over time and allows for the examination of results for each step, including minimum, maximum, and envelope analyses.
Large Displacement Analysis
Large displacement analysis is essential to account for changes in the stiffness of structural members due to the loads applied to the structure. In MIDAS CIVIL NX, when conducting general analyses, the Newton-Raphson method is applied for load control, and for problems such as snap-through or snap-back, the Arch-Length method, which is displacement control, can be applied. It enables the evaluation of the stability of large displacements occurring in each construction stage by applying load/displacement/energy convergence criteria.
Material Nonlinear Analysis
Material Nonlinear Analysis Functionality allows the analysis of permanent or irreversible deformation in structures where material yielding behavior occurs. It enables the examination of the response effects related to steel's yielding properties and concrete materials' yielding and crack characteristics. This functionality facilitates the analysis of the yield area definition and the expansion and movement changes of the yield surface. It allows for load step-specific analysis results according to the location of nodal positions, considering yielding deformation, and implements the Layered Approach function to perform stress integration in the thickness direction, facilitating material nonlinearity for shell elements. Moreover, it provides an environment capable of simultaneous material and geometric nonlinear analysis for detailed structural analysis of steel structures, considering Large Displacement and Large Rotation for improved analysis convergence.
Tendon Prestress Loss in PSC Box Girder Bridges
MIDAS CIVIL NX allows for calculating the loss of prestress in tendons, considering 3D shapes and curvatures. It calculates losses due to tendon relaxation, friction losses between the tendon and the sheath, and the effects of elastic concrete shrinkage. It provides short-term prestress losses that consider relaxation, friction, and elastic concrete shrinkage as well as long-term prestress losses that consider creep, shrinkage, and tendon relaxation effects.
